One of the most common factors why horses contract diseases are an inappropriate diet, stress and lack of exercise, as well as unhealthy living conditions. Horses can be affected by a range of health problems, but some of the most common ones include:
Colic:
It’s like a stomach ache for horses and can happen for various reasons like diet changes, stress, or digestive issues.
Laminitis:
This is a painful hoof condition often caused by diet problems or metabolic imbalances.
Arthritis:
Older horses or those who’ve had joint injuries can suffer from this, causing limping and stiffness.
Wounds and Abscesses:
Horses can get hurt, leading to infections and abscesses if not treated properly.
Respiratory Issues:
Dust, allergens, or being stabled can lead to Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) or other breathing problems.
Internal and External Parasites:
Worms, mites, and lice can make horses sick if not kept under control.
Parasitic Colic:
Certain intestinal parasites can cause severe colic if left untreated.
Viral Diseases:
Like equine influenza or equine viral arteritis (EVA), which can spread easily among horses.
Hoof Troubles:
Besides laminitis, horses can have other hoof issues like pododermatitis or contracted hoof syndrome.
